Musician – Researcher of Folk Culture – Holder of First Degree Artistic Certificate (equivalent to a Doctorate) from the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance – International Honorary Doctorate – The First Female Researcher of Iranian Local Music – One of Six Veteran Women in Iranian Local Music – Revitalizer of Lullaby and Maternal Culture of Iranian Nomads, and more.

Parvin was born in 1949 into the Qashqai tribe and spent her childhood among the Il (tribe/nomadic community). After completing her secondary education, she entered the Nomadic Teacher Training College in Shiraz and served for many years as a teacher in various nomadic areas of Fars Province. Her father, Gholamreza Bahmani, was a prominent and influential musician within the tribe.

She says her interest in the tribe’s music began when her wet nurse would whisper lullabies in her ear, and her artistic father was also her greatest encourager. She benefited from the tutelage of masters such as Mohammad Hossein Kiani (a famous Qashqai Il singer), Mohammad Qoli Khorshidi (the Il‘s renowned Shahnameh reciter), Hadi Nakisa and Habibollah Gorginpour (the most celebrated musicians of the tribe), and Mohammad Reza Darvishi. She also spent a long period learning classical Iranian Radif music from Hengameh Akhavan. She introduced her own children to traditional and nomadic music, and dedicated over two decades of her life to researching and reviving the authentic and traditional music of the Qashqai tribe.

Parvin officially began her foundational work in the field of art and culture at the 18th Fajr International Festival. Since 1995 (1374 SH), she was repeatedly invited to numerous international, national, and regional festivals, where she performed or managed various programs. In 2002 (1381 SH), she formed and led the Hava Qashqai Music Group with the aim of preserving and disseminating the tribe’s authentic music. (Hava is derived from the name of a veteran Qashqai artist and musician).
